To Readers and Writers

In 2025, with a deep respect for Chinese micro-fiction, we compiled and published “2025 Selected Chinese Micro Fictions”. Featuring a dual-volume structure consisting of the “Chinese Volume” and the “Overseas Volume”, the book includes 100 excellent works from Chinese Mainland and various overseas locations.

Sponsored by the Philippine Wang Jingguo Art and Culture Foundation, this is an officially published annual selection of world Chinese micro-fiction.

This annual anthology marks our new starting point.

In light of the enthusiastic response, the World Chinese Micro-Fiction Research Association has jointly decided: starting from 2026, the annual selection series will be officially upgraded to a regularly published serial publication, titled “Journal of World Chinese Micro-Fiction” .

The published “2025 Selected Chinese Micro Fictions” will be retrospectively recognized as the inaugural issue of our journal (Vol. 1, No. 1, 2025). As our cornerstone, it will be permanently archived in the digital library of this journal.

From 2026 onwards, this journal will be established as a semi-annual publication, with a new volume scheduled for regular release each year (Vol. 2, Vol. 3, etc.). We will continue to adopt a global perspective, and persistently explore micro-fiction works that embody the spirit of the times and exhibit artistic innovation.

With the official establishment of the journal, our official website is now live. The 100 works featured in the 2025 “Annual Selection” have been fully digitized and are available for free reading in the “Archives” section of this website.

Future new works will adopt a model combining “online priority” and “annual collection”, allowing the dissemination of excellent works to no longer be limited by the publication cycle of paper books.

Through our website, we aim to establish a more convenient submission system and author community, connecting Chinese-language writers from all over the world.

About us

In 1999, led by Chinese writer Ling Dingnian, the initiative received responses and support from nine countries and regions including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, Australia, and Hong Kong, China. The preparatory committee for the first World Chinese Micro-Fiction Research Association (WCMFRA) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 2000, the second preparatory committee was held in Fuzhou, China, with representatives from 15 countries participating. It was registered in Singapore in 2001 and held its inaugural meeting in Manila, Philippines, in March 2022.

So far, 13 conferences have been held in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, Hong Kong, China, and Shanghai, China. The founding president is Huang Mengwen, the former president of the Singapore Writers Association, and the founding secretary-general is Ling Dingnian. The second president is Jia Zongpei, the former president of Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House, and the third president is Ling Dingnian, a micro-novel writer.

WCMFRA is a non-profit, loose professional literary association. It does not accept individual members, only group members from various countries or regions. No membership fees are charged, and no accounts are maintained. In principle, a member representative conference is held every two years. The country where the conference is held will be responsible for raising and hosting the expenses, through the Chinese Writers Association or Mini-Story Society of that country.

WCMFRA selects the top ten news stories and top ten newsmakers of the year in Chinese micro-fiction at the end of each year, and announces the results at the beginning of the following year. It has organized several worldwide Chinese micro-fiction writing contests, launched special editions and collections of micro-fiction in newspapers and magazines around the world, edited and published series and anthologies of micro-fiction, and held lectures on micro-fiction.
